Safe is a relative term.  What's considered 'safe' for one person may be dangerous to another.

I bet there are people who feel safe in St. Louis despite their city's recent ranking as the least safe in the US.

Now take a person from Brandon and drop them into a 'bad' neighboorhood in St. Louis and they might be terrified.

Homesnacks analyzed FBI data including violent and property crimes per capita along with jobs, salaries, and schools for each city.

The data showed that personal safety in South Dakota is good, but property crime is an issue.

By that criteria, Sioux Falls didn't make the cut, but these cities did:

  1. Brandon
  2. Lead
  3. Sisseton
  4. Madison
  5. Summerset
  6. Tea
  7. Brookings
  8. North Sioux City
  9. Hot Springs
  10. Canton

If your city didn't make the list, don't be disappointed.  There's safe, then there's South Dakota safe.  You could live practically anywhere in South Dakota and still be 'safe', whatever that means.
