Postal Service Upgrades Sioux Falls Facility To Speed Up South Dakota Mail Delivery
Getting your mail delivered in a more timely fashion is about to become a reality in South Dakota.
After two years of slower mail delivery, the Postal Service has announced that it is upgrading its Sioux Falls plant in 2027.
According to a press release, beginning January 1st, the Sioux Falls facility will become a regional processing and distribution center, meaning most South Dakota mail and packages will stay in state, instead of routing through Omaha, Fargo, or Denver.

This comes after the Postal Service spent the better part of a year reviewing processing and logistics operations at its three South Dakota processing plants in Sioux Falls, Huron, and Rapid City.
The USPS estimates the change could cut delivery time for a letter by one to two days.
Mail delivery in the Mount Rushmore State has been notably slower since the downsizing of a Postal Service facility in Huron in 2024.
The 2027 change means Sioux Falls will handle most mail and packages originating and destined for South Dakota instead of sending originating mail to Omaha for processing.
Most intrastate mail from Huron and Rapid City will also be processed in Sioux Falls rather than being routed through facilities in Fargo and Denver.
