What’s Changing with Mega Millions in 2025?

Lottery players in South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and 42 other states are about to deal with some major changes to one of their favorite games.

Beginning April 8, Mega Millions is getting a 'mega' overhaul, with higher ticket prices, more chances to win, larger jackpot starting amounts, and a built-in multiplier.

The biggest difference players will notice right away is the cost to buy a ticket, which is more than doubling - from $2 to $5.

But the increased price to play comes with better chances of winning bigger jackpots.

For starters, the starting jackpot will now be $50 million, up from the current $20 million.

Bigger Jackpots, Better Odds: What You Need to Know

The new Mega Millions tickets will now include a built-in 'Multiplier," which increases non-jackpot prizes by two, three, four, five or 10 times. Before, players were charged an extra dollar per ticket for the multiplier.

Non-jackpot prizes are also going up from the current $1-2 million to $10-20 million.

Your odds of winning are also getting better, slightly. 1-in-23 going forward, compared to 1-in-24 currently.
