Time is running out for a pair of local lottery players to cash in big time or lose out on some serious dough.

Officials with the South Dakota Lottery say two massive jackpots remain unclaimed, with less than a month to go before they disappear for good.

The first is a $2 million winning ticket from the August 23, 2025, Powerball drawing, where a player in Mobridge matched all five white balls and doubled the $1 million payout with the Power Play option.

That ticket was sold at Gas N More and expires 180 days after purchase, on February 19.

Four days after that big Powerball win, another South Dakota player, this one in Sioux Falls, won a $500,000 Double Play prize in the August 27th drawing. That ticket, which was purchased at Hy Vee Gas on West 26th Street, expires February 23rd.

If prizes are not claimed, they are distributed to the South Dakota Lottery’s Unclaimed Prize Fund, which helps fund prizes for future games.

Not only will the players forfeit the money if they don't come forward, but the stores that sold the tickets will also lose a significant amount of cash. The bonus retailers receive for selling a winning ticket is only paid if the prizes are claimed. The $2 million prize would yield a $25,000 bonus, while the $500,000 ticket would result in a $10,000 bonus.

South Dakota's other big lottery winner in 2025 wasted no time picking up their money.

The person holding the $4 million winning ticket in the August 7th Lotto America drawing claimed their prize a week later, opting for a cash payout of $1.8 million. That ticket was purchased at Freedom Valu Center in Vermillion, which netted a $10,000 bonus.
