Big Population Dip Along South Dakota Border Sparks Concern
A tri-city area along the South Dakota-Iowa-Nebraska border is among the top five locations in America losing residents at a staggering pace.
24/7 Wall Street tracked population numbers over five years (2017-2022) and discovered that only five markets saw a mass exodus of more than 10 percent of their citizens during that time
The metro area of Sioux City, Iowa, North Sioux City, South Dakota, and South Sioux City, Nebraska, saw population numbers plummet by nearly 18,000 people between 2017-2022. That's a decrease of 10.6 percent.
That loss of 17,924 residents saw the market drop from the 246th largest population in America in 2017 to the 281st largest in 2022 - a tumble of 35 spots.
