You'd never guess that one of the ten best restaurants in the United States is under this blue awning in a residential Minnesota neighborhood, just a few blocks from the Mississippi River in St. Paul.

But don't let this unassuming locale fool you. Myriel is on a roll.

Since opening its doors in 2021, the restaurant and its chef, Karyn Tomlinson, have been cleaning up in the awards categories.

Last year, was named by Food & Wine magazine as one of the country’s best new chefs. She's been a semifinalist for the James Beard’s Midwest Award three times, and now this year is a finalist.

In addition, Myriel has now been named the number nine restaurant in Food & Wine Magazine’s Global Tastemaker awards.

In bestowing the honor, the magazine said:

'2024 F&W Best New Chef Karyn Tomlinson has a reputation for “grandma chic” style. At Myriel, she pulls in whole animals from local farms and wanders the woods for wild ingredients, which star in simply stunning dishes. Take the crispy and rosy duck breast, sliced over a gloss of sauce and scattered with herbs. She sets it down on pretty vintage china in a minimalist dining room full of soothing neutrals. It’s worth the ticket to Minnesota for such a beautifully restrained tasting menu.'
