South Dakota Could See Unprecedented Weather This Summer
South Dakota could see some crazy weather patterns this summer if the Farmer's Almanac is correct. Their annual forecast calls for above-normal temperatures for much of the nation.
Let's go back to last year when the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), ranked the summer of 2022 as the third-hottest summer in 128 years. That got our attention. This year, the ocean-warming El Nino is getting some attention that could affect weather patterns this summer - and not in a good way.
The Farmer's Almanac has South Dakota smack dab in the middle of the "Wet and Broiling" zone. Great. We'll finally know what that lobster in the pot is feeling.
June is expected to be stormy. The end of June sees "seemingly unrelenting heat."
July calls for "sweltering conditions," leading many to wonder if we're going to be on track to set new records.
"Across a swath covering parts of the Rockies, Plains, Midwest, and east to the Mid-Atlantic Coast, there will be occasional bouts of heavy precipitation, primarily from showery rains and big thunderstorms." ~ Farmer's Almanac, 2023
So, there we go. A possible very hot and very wet summer ahead.
Of course, the art of weather forecasting is usually less than accurate, especially this far out. I personally like the 3-day or 7-day forecasts by our local weather professionals better. But it's best to be prepared for the worst mother nature can throw at us - especially after last year's unprecedented droughts, floods, and heat.
By the way...is it now acceptable to wear Speedos to HyVee. No...that's okay. I'll show myself out.
