Grand Funk Railroad to Play Sioux City’s Awesome Biker Nights in June
They topped the charts twice more than 40 years ago and have eight top ten albums to their credit. Nearly 50 years after they started, Grand Funk Railroad is still going strong and coming to Awesome Biker Nights in Sioux City this summer.
Grand Funk will headline on the main stage of the event's final night, Saturday, June 16, 2018.
Formed in Flint, Michigan in 1969, Grand Funk released 11 studio albums before calling it quits for the first time in 1976. During that time they had two #1 singles, 'We're An American Band' and 'The Loco-Motion'.
The band reunited shortly in the early 1980's and again in the late 1990's before original guitarist and lead singer Mark Farner left to continue his solo career.
The band's current lineup features original founding members Don Brewer on vocals and drums and bassist Mel Schacher. In recent years, the band has added former .38 Special guitarist Max Carl, former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, and former Bob Seger keyboardist Tim Cashion.
The 2018 Awesome Bike Nights run June 14-16 along 4th Street in downtown Sioux City. This year's event will raise money for Mid-Step Services, Sioux City Special Olympics, Crossroads Shelter for Homeless Women and Children, St. Florian Fire and Burn Foundation, and the Cosmopolitan Club.
Admission is $30 for the whole weekend or $20 per night.
