Sometimes there is nothing better at satisfying a sweet tooth craving than a donut.

They were first brought to America more than a century ago but didn't really gain popularity until the first donut machine was invented in the 1920s.

Now you'd be hard-pressed to find a place in the country that doesn't have at least one local donut shop.

Recently, Yelp decided to narrow down all of those options to an elite list of the Top 100 Donut Shops, based on the total volume and ratings of reviews between January 1, 2002, and March 31 of this year.

Only one establishment from the Tri-State (South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota) made the cut.

Tucked away in a tiny strip mall off Highway 169 and Medicine Lake Road in the Minneapolis suburb of Columbia Heights is Heights Bakery, which checks in at number 76 overall.

They've been in business for 60 years and serve up about 50 different varieties of:

What's even more impressive than the menu are the rave reviews Heights Bakery has garnered on its Yelp page, where 90 of 106 reviews were five-star (89%).
