And the Winner Is? All Hail South Dakota’s Best Burger Champion
The search for the best burger in South Dakota is over.
Earlier this summer, the South Dakota Beef Industry Council invited you to nominate your pick for the tastiest beef patties in the Mount Rushmore State and then last month they narrowed the field down to five finalists.
- Big Al Burger - Circle E Drive-In, Murdo
- Famous Murph Burger - Murph’s Burgers and Fries, Sioux Falls
- The Angry Neighbor Burger - Neighbors Grub and Pub, Summerset
- Dipt'n Dusted Burger - The New Frontier, Webster
- Whiskey Bourbon Burger - Horseshoe Restaurant, Deadwood
To be considered, the burgers had to be 100% beef but could utilize other ingredients in the patties, like spices and vegetables.
The burgers were required to be formed ground beef patties served on a bun or other bread product and may include any combination of condiments, sauces, cheeses, and toppings.
To be considered, the burgers also had to be available on a currently open restaurant’s regular menu and that restaurant needed to be open for business year-round.
The five finalists were then judged by a panel of South Dakota Beef Council experts in four categories:
- Taste – 50%
- Appearance and Presentation – 30%
- Proper cooking temperature/degree of doneness – 10%
- Overall – 10%
And the winner is...
The Angry Neighbor Burger at Neighbors Grub + Pub in Summerset.
Here's the official menu description:
A half-pound hand-pattied burger, topped with pepper jack cheese, grilled onions, hatch green chilies and jalapenos, and finished with house-made Angry Neighbor sauce
Congratulations!
