Lane Closure On Minnesota Avenue Adds To Traffic Challenges
Just when you thought driving on and around Interstate 229 in Sioux Falls couldn't get any more complicated, comes this.
Recently, bridge projects on 26th Street and Cliff Avenue have made getting to and from the interstate a nightmare at times.
What's Next?
Now, the South Dakota Department of Transportation says the northbound outside lane on Minnesota Avenue will be closed between the I-229 northbound on-ramp and the I-229 southbound off-ramp.

When?
The lane closures will be in effect from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM over the next three days, beginning tomorrow (Wednesday).
What's Being Done?
The lane closure will allow crews to install a temporary large block retaining wall. This closure is part of a larger overall project that is reconstructing I-229 Exit 4 (Cliff Avenue) and includes lighting, signals, mainline Interstate work, two structure replacements, and median crossovers.
Project Timetable
The $48 million project is expected to be finished in June of 2027
