South Dakota's fourth-largest city is about to welcome the state's sixth Target location.

July 26th, the Minneapolis-based chain is debuting its Brookings store as part of an 11-store opening wave across the country.

The 127,000-square-foot facility will be part of the Brookings Marketplace shopping center on Lefevre Drive, north of 6th Street (Highway 14) and directly east of the Interstate 29 interchange.

.Plans for the new store were first announced in December 2024, with groundbreaking in May 2025.

Target currently has five stores in South Dakota with two locations in Sioux Falls and single stores in Aberdeen, Rapid City, and Watertown.

Ten other new Target stores will open across America in July in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Texas and Utah, bringing the total number of stores nationwide around 2,000. There are 300 new locations slated to open by 2035.
