New Phone Scam Targets South Dakota Healthcare Workers

A new scam making the rounds in South Dakota is targeting a very specific group.

Healthcare workers.

The Department of Health (DOH) is issuing the warning after numerous phone calls have been received by healthcare workers from someone impersonating Department of Health or licensing board officials.

Those callers falsely claim that the practitioners are in breach of licensing rules, laws, or regulations and demand immediate payments to rectify the 'issue''

The DOH is reminding healthcare workers that the agency never makes calls of this type.

Here are some of the red flags to look out for if you receive a scam call:

Requests for monetary payments;
Threats of disciplinary actions or license termination;
Demands for actions in less than 20 days;
Discouragement of seeking legal advice;
Solicitation of personal details, passwords, or social security numbers.
