A summer of traffic delays along a stretch of Interstate 229 in Sioux Falls is about to kick off.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation has announced that beginning Monday (June 10), structure repair work will begin on the 26th Street Bridge over the interstate as well as the I-229 bridges over the Big Sioux River and Southeastern Avenue.

Crews will be doing approach slab replacement, bridge deck grinding, deck repairs, polymer chip seal, and guardrail installation.

During construction, lane closures will impact both northbound and southbound traffic on I-229 between Exit 4 (Cliff Avenue) and Exit 6 (East 10th Street), and on 26th Street.

The prime contractor for the $1.9 million project is BX Civil & Construction, Inc. of Dell Rapids.

The work is expected to be completed by November.
