How Much Money Did the South Dakota State Fair Make in 2024?
2024 was a big year for the bottom line at the South Dakota State Fair.
According to figures released Thursday (October 10), this year's event saw a 20 percent jump in revenue from the 2023 fair.
In all, the 2024 fair, which ran from August 28 to September 2, generated $266,352.21 in tax collections, up from $222,108.58 last year. That's despite the event attracting fewer vendors - 301 this year compared to 322 in 2023.
Fairgoers spent money on goods, services, and concessions during the six-day event – totaling over $3.2 million in revenue.
As for the taxes collected during the fair, $136,745.50 was state sales tax, $63,106.02 was Huron’s municipal sales tax, $19,256.35 was Huron’s municipal gross receipts tax, and $47,244.34 was state tourism tax.
Goo Goo Dolls, Kory and the Fireflies, Riley Green, and Trace Adkins were the headline acts in the main grandstand this year.
The 2025 South Dakota State Fair is scheduled to run from August 27 to September 1.
