Honda Recalls Vehicles Sold in Iowa, Minnesota

Some vehicles sold or registered in Iowa and Minnesota are part of a massive recall nationwide.

Honda is recalling nearly 564,000 SUVs because road salt used in those two states, as well as 20 other cold-weather states can cause the frame to rust and rear suspension parts to come loose.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall impacts certain Honda CR-Vs sold between 2007 and 2011.

Authorities say salt accumulation can cause corrosion and could lead to the rear trailing arm detaching, increasing the risk of an accident.

That can cause drivers to lose control, increasing the risk of a crash. Rear trailing arms connect the rear axle to the chassis.

So far, more than 60 complaints have been filed, but no injuries have been reported.

Honda says it will notify owners by letter May 8 with information on scheduling an appointment to have a dealer inspect the SUVs and install a support brace or repair the rear frame if needed.

The carmaker says if they find a badly damaged frame, they may offer to buy the vehicle.

Along with Iowa and Minnesota, the recalled CR-Vs were either sold or registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C.
