A potentially dangerous pressure situation has led to a recall of nearly 90,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycles nationwide.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall was initiated because the airbox backplate breather port on certain models may be blocked, which allows pressure to build up inside the crankcase.

The impacted Harley-Davidson models are motorcycles built with an Airbox Baseplate [part number 29000373]:

  • 2024-2026 FLTRX, FLHX
  • 2025-2026 FXBR, FLFB
  • 2025 FLHXU
  • 2026 FLTRXL, FLTRT, FLHXL, FLHLT

The added pressure in the crankcase may result in oil ejecting from the fill spout when the dipstick is removed, increasing the risk of injury.

The NHTSA says dealers will inspect the breather port, and, if the port is blocked, they will repair the blockage free of charge.

Letters notifying riders of the safety risk are expected to be mailed on May 11.
