The Coldest Cities in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota
Yes, we all knew what we were getting into when we either moved to the upper Midwest, or simply stayed here. Spring and fall are very delightful, Summer is warm and sometimes very hot, but these winters can bring bone-chilling cold for months on end.
But there seems to be towns that are simply colder than others, data shows.
This may not come as a shock to anyone but Aberdeen is statistically the coldest city in South Dakota. The "Hub City" has an average annual low right at freezing: 32 degrees. (Fun fact: I lived in Aberdeen for 2 years, 3 days, and 7 hours)
The coldest town in Minnesota is Hibbing. The hometown of the legendary Bob Dylan has an average annual low of just 25 degrees!
Meanwhile, the title of the coldest little town in Iowa belongs to Cresco, with a population of less than 4,000 people, has an average annual low temperature of 33 degrees.
Let's look at North Dakota because this will be fun. The town of Bottineau boasts an average annual low temp of 27 degrees. Not surprisingly, it is not far from the Canadian border.
