South Dakota State Representative Ray Ring of Vermillion has introduced a bill to the current legislative session that would end sales-tax on food in South Dakota.

House Bill 1119, would lower the tax rate on certain food to zero and replace that revenue with an additional tax on other good and services.

Ring told WNAX Radio in Yankton that the bill is designed to be revenue neutral and help lower the cost of essential food for South Dakotans. Ring adds that South Dakota's current tax structure puts a bigger burden on lower income citizens.
