2018 New Music Releases
The new year got off to a fast start with the release of Judas Priest's highly anticipated follow-up to Redeemer of Souls, their Top 10 Billboard hit from 2014. Joe Satriani and Joe Perry also assembled all-star casts for their respective new solo albums.
Elsewhere, there was an impressive slate of reissues and live albums on tap, as well – beginning with the expanded edition of Fleetwood Mac's career-making self-titled 1975 album. The three-disc set now includes an entire album of extras, while the deluxe edition is highlighted by a 5.1 surround sound remix.
Live at David Lynch’s Festival of Disruption featured Robert Plant and his current band, the Sensational Space Shifters, performing an October 2016 show at Los Angeles' Ace Hotel Theatre that helped raise funds for the David Lynch Foundation. Their set included plenty of solo stuff, as well as several Led Zeppelin songs.
Firepower boasts a sturdy connection back to Judas Priest's glory years, in the form of co-producer Tom Allom. An engineer on Black Sabbath's first three albums, Allom earlier worked with Judas Priest on such favorites as British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith.
What Happens Next found Satriani collaborating with bassist Glenn Hughes (from Deep Purple and the recently reunited Black Country Communion), and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, who also plays with Satriani in Chickenfoot. Perry's Sweetzerland Manifesto, his first non-holiday solo album in eight years, features collaborations with Robin Zander of Cheap Trick.
More information on these and other rock releases can be found below. Remember to check back here as this list is continuously updated throughout the year.
