Why You May See Someone Carrying a Towel Today
Every May 25 we celebrate Towel Day. What? You've never heard of Towel Day? Well, you've come to the right place.
According to Wikipedia, there's an actual story as to why you may cross paths today with someone carrying a towel.
Towel Day is celebrated every year on 25 May as a tribute to the author Douglas Adams by his fans. On this day, fans openly carry a towel with them, as described in Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or share their folded animal towels to demonstrate their appreciation for the books and the author. The commemoration was first held 25 May 2001, two weeks after Adams' death on 11 May.
So now you know.
But now I'd like to take the conversation in a different direction. How many times should a person use a towel? Once? Twice? An entire week?
My partner in crime on the radio, Beth, never uses a towel more than once. Me on the other hand, I'll use it probably three or four times.
Actually, if truth be told, I only change out towels whenever my wife, Suzette, decides to wash a load of linens. She's my "keeper" you know.
Suzette loves it when we get brand new towels, when they're all fluffy and thick. Me on the other hand, I actually prefer towels when they're on their last leg.
And I'm guessing I'm not alone in my thinking. For guys at least, new fluffy towels and whiskers don't mix. You usually end up looking like Santa with lint all over your face.
Plus, new towels are always thick and I'm not a big fan of thick towels. I don't want to be able to see through them, but I just think thinner towels soak up the water better.
Thick or thin, new or old, I think everyone will agree though that there's nothing quite like stepping out of the shower and wrapping yourself up in a WARM towel. That's the best!
