Ward’s Big Day Leads Houston Past Florida State in Peach Bowl
Houston quarterback Greg Ward, Jr. ran for two touchdowns and threw for one more as the No. 18 Cougars upset No. 10 Florida State, 38-24. Ward, who was named the game’s offensive MVP, threw for 238 yards and rushed for 67 more in the victory.
Defense was a key theme throughout this one as the Seminoles, who came into the game ranked 11th nationally in scoring defense, surrendered 448 yards and a season-high 38 points. Houston, meanwhile, forced five turnovers after the Seminoles had turned the ball over only ten times all season. Florida State's star running back Dalvin Cook was held to just 33 yards, a touchdown and a fumble on 18 carries.
The victory gave Houston its second 13-win season in school history on arguably the school’s biggest-ever stage.
