If you somehow need more convincing, here are five great reasons to go see Metallica's 2017 WorldWired tour, which is sure to be one of the concert events of the year.
A 'Crazy and Overwhelming' New Stage Show
From snake pits to flaming roadies and lighting rigs that "self-destruct" mid-concert (see below), Metallica have always placed a premium on innovative stage shows. Drummer Lars Ulrich promises that the band's new production will be another step forward: "It's big and it's just f---ing crazy and overwhelming and there are a few bells and whistles that are gonna make it unique."
Lots of 'Hardwired ... to Self-Destruct' Songs
Well past the stage in their career where most bands squeeze in only a token new song or two from their new record, Metallica have already busted out no less than five songs from their acclaimed Hardwired ... to Self-Destruct album on the overseas legs of this tour. Plus, every ticket purchase comes with your choice of a physical or digital copy of the new album.
An Ever-Changing Selection of Metallica Classics
In addition to "must-play" classics such as "Master of Puppets," "Sad but True" and "One," Metallica have been opening up their set lists at early Worldwired dates, digging out gems such as "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)," "Whiplash" and "King Nothing."
An Extremely Healthy, Well-Prepared Band
As Ulrich noted in a recent interview, the former hard-partying Metallica take their health and tour preparation very seriously nowadays.“People come backstage, and we’re drinking these nasty f—ing protein shakes,” he explained. “People want a f—ing Jack and coke or want you to shoot f—ing speed into your eyeballs or whatever. It’s pretty far from that and has been pretty far from that for some time. Now, it’s just about being in tip-top physical shape and going out there and delivering the best show you can."
Three Great Opening Acts
Be sure to get to your Worldwired show early, as Metallica will be bringing three of modern metal's most acclaimed acts on tour to open for them. At various stops (see schedule below), you'll get to see Avenged Sevenfold, Volbeat and Gojira. Learn more about all three acts right here.
