Sometimes the biggest challenge of crafting the perfect summer trip is deciding on just where to spend it.

CNN Travel is trying to help solve the destination dilemma with its list of America's Best Towns to Visit. A list that factors in things like attractions, food and beverage offerings, nightlife and cultural scene, sense of identity, proximity to other interesting spots, as well as lodging options and the ease of getting around.

This year, one Minnesota city made the select group of ten.

Duluth checks in at number ten thanks to what CNN calls its 'lakeside setting, outdoor activities, and creative spirit.'

For years, the town of 86,000 has boasted that it is 'cooler the lake', which refers to its proximity to Lake Superior, more moderate summertime temperatures, and overall vibe.

Visitors take advantage of the weather this time of year, which rarely gets above 80 degrees, by taking advantage of an extensive park system and more than 350 miles of trails to explore in and around town.

The dining scene is strong with local favorites like Northern Waters Smokehaus, home of the Cajun Finn sandwich (salmon with green-onion cream cheese and veggies on stirato bread), and Grandma’s Saloon & Grill with chicken wild rice soup and a walleye fillet sandwich.

Duluth is also a prime destination for great summertime events like the Rhubarb Festival, Reggae & World Music Festival, Summer Brew Fest, and Bienvenue Coffee Fest.
