The iconic Ideal Yardware sign, which graced the Sioux Falls skyline for most resident's lives, was taken down today, October 10, 2023. It was loaded onto a sign company's flatbed truck and hauled away, never to be seen in public again.

Family-owned Ideal Yardware, which was most recently located on South Louise Avenue at I-229, served the area for over 75 years until it was sold in March 2023 to C & B Operations, LLC.

This historic, very recognizable neon sign is reminiscent of the 1950s, when it was created and erected at the original Ideal Yardware location, near 12th Street and Minnesota Avenue. It features uniquely designed, orb-encircled, vibrantly-colored letters that spell the word IDEAL.

The sign was moved in the early 2000s when the business moved to the Louise Avenue location. The Hansen family, who owned Ideal Yardware, sought and received special permission from the City of Sioux Falls to relocate the sign and recondition it so it conformed to current local sign ordinances.

The Ideal Yardware sign is going to stay with the Hansen family.

Ideal Yardware sold and repaired snow removal and lawn equipment and supplies including Ariens, Gravely, STIHL, and Honda Power Equipment. C & B continues to handle all those brands, plus introduced John Deere Compact Utility Tractors, Turf Products, Gators, and Compact Construction Equipment to the Sioux Falls market. C & B also owns many John Deere dealerships throughout the upper Midwest, plus material handling equipment businesses throughout the US.

This sign was an historical piece of Sioux Falls. The pics are the last time it'll be seen. Thank you to Scott Smith for the pics.
