Tedeschi Trucks Band Announce New ‘Signs’ Album
Tedeschi Trucks Band are preparing to release their first album since 2016's Let Me Get By. Signs, their fourth studio effort, will arrive Feb.15, and they're previewing it with "Hard Case," which you can listen to below.
"It's a fun song for us to play," Susan Tedeschi told NPR, where "Hard Case" premiered, "And like so many other songs on the album, is a great showcase for the band."
The band begins a U.S. tour on Jan. 17 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with European dates scheduled for April and another trek through the U.S. this summer. You can check out all the dates below and get full details on their website.
"It's time to turn it loose," Derek Trucks said about the album and tour. "We're pretty excited to have our fans hear it and to start playing it out live."
Recorded live to two-inch analogue tape at Swamp Raga, the group's home studio in Jacksonville, Fla., Signs was co-produced by Trucks, Jim Scott and Bobby Tis, and features contributions from longtime friends Oliver Wood and Doyle Bramhall II, and two of Trucks' former Allman Brothers bandmates, Warren Haynes and Marc Quinones.
You can pre-order the record at their web store, where "Hard Case" is being offered as an instant download. Those who pre-order will be entered in a drawing to win two tickets to any headlining show by the band this year, including a $1,000 for travel expenses, a meet-and-greet and an autographed Gibson Derek Trucks Signature SG guitar.
In addition to CD and vinyl, Signs will also be available in a limited-edition etched wooden box containing a signed copy of the CD, a guitar pick tin, a photograph and a sticker.
The album is dedicated to guitarist Col. Bruce Hampton, a "friend and mentor," who died onstage in 2017 during a 70th birthday celebration concert. The recent deaths of Hampton, Trucks' uncle Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman have inspired Derek's recent approach to music.
"How their passing affected me ... was that there was the wanting to do it right and wanting to carry on whatever parts I learned from them that I could carry on," he said. "The music they made was of a special time and a place. I'm never going to recapture that stuff, but I've certainly been able to take the lessons I learned from them."
Trucks noted that the "lesson was every time that every time [Butch] got onstage, he just aired it out and he gave it everything he had in his being. No matter how we was feeling or what mood he was in when he hit the stage. That was what was sacred to him. With Gregg, he just had the mojo dripping off of him. Some of it was learned with his brother Duane [Allman], but some of it was just, he was born with a thing. There was an honesty and authenticity to what they did as musicians. You always want to make sure that you tap into and you want to avoid anything that kind of taints the well."
