Here's something that could come in real handy for all of us outdoorsy-type South Dakotans. South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks is holding outdoor cooking classes this weekend.

Three different state parks will be holding cooking classes on Saturday (June 17) according to a KDLT News report.

Each class will include basic skills and safety precautions for making meals outdoors. The classes will also provide hands-on cooking experience.

Key lessons will be taught like; how to start and properly extinguish a campfire, outdoor grilling techniques, and Dutch oven safety.

South Dakota State Parks Visitor Services Coordinator Lynn Spomer told KDLT News, "Teaching kids how to take care of a fire and cook food properly is a lifelong skill".

A kids cooking class will be held at Good Earth State Park at Blood Run. A Dutch Oven cookout will take place at Mina Lake Recreation Area, and a class designed to showcase the art of campfire cooking will be taught at Oakwood Lakes State Park.

All these outdoor cooking classes just might help spark the inner chef in you and your children.

The events are free of charge, but, you will need a park entrance license to get into the state parks offering classes.
