The Sioux Falls School District is in the market for a new superintendent.

KSFY-TV is reporting that current Superintendent Brian Maher is leaving at the end of the 2019-20 school year. He made the announcement at a Monday (December 9) press conference.

Maher said he's leaving without the next stop in mind, but he's not retiring.

He was hired in April of 2015 to replace Pam Homan as superintendent in Sioux Falls. He had previously held the same position in Kearney, Nebraska.

The superintendent in Sioux Falls currently manages 23 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools, an alternative school, a career technical education academy, a project-based learning high school.

The Sioux Falls School District has been in existence since 1871, 18 years prior to South Dakota's statehood.
