Sioux Falls Tightening Cell Phone Rules for High School Students
The current year isn't quite in the books yet, but some Sioux Falls School District students are already in for a policy change for the next school year.
Monday (May 12), the Sioux Falls School Board approved stricter cell phone rules for high school students beginning with the 2025-26 school year.
What is the new policy?
The new cell phone policy will prohibit high school students at Jefferson, Lincoln, Roosevelt, and Washington from using phones in classrooms and academic hallways during the day, but will allow use in the cafeteria during lunch period.

Committee makes recommendation
The new policy was developed by a 36-member committee and included input from more than 12,000 community surveys.
What is the current policy?
Under the current rules, Sioux Falls high schoolers are forbidden from using phones during class periods but are allowed to use them between classes and at lunch.
