Open Streets Event will Close Sioux Falls Street Temporarily
It's ironic to say the least, but it should be a ton of fun!
Friday (June 6), AARP South Dakota is hosting the 'Be Part of a Community In Motion with Open Streets' event in downtown Sioux Falls.
The irony?
The 'open streets' event will actually close part of a downtown street for a short time.
From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Phillips Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets, will become a pedestrian-only zone to make room for a variety of activities including:
- Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation Mobile Rec Unity
- Wellness class from SiSu & Crossfit Sioux Falls
- Parking lot Pickleball by Remedy
- LEGO-building activities with Bricks & Minifigs
According to AARPO, a livable community is a place where people of all ages and abilities can enjoy a quality of life enhanced by vibrant public spaces, opportunities for social connection and safe places to walk.
The idea for the summer series of open streets events, happening on the first Friday of the month through August, evolved from a pilot project the partners held in October 2024 in conjunction with the DTSF Fall Art and Wine Walk.

The open streets events are free and open to the public. The remaining 2025 events will be Red, White & Downtown on July 4 and Summer Art & Wine Walk on August 1.
