The massive headache that was the reconstruction of South Louise Avenue is mostly over and it wrapped up almost two months early.

The City of Sioux Falls announced today (September 7) that the heavily traveled street is fully open to traffic, having been completely rebuilt from 41st Street to 49th Street, including the intersection at 49th Street.

New traffic signals, widening to six lanes, and increased storm drainage were added.

Finally short cuts or long cuts on I-229 and I-29 to get places north of 41st Street won't be necessary. Twice this summer I was heading north on Louise and forgot about construction forcing me to sit through tons of one-lane traffic. I'm allergic to driving through construction zones.

While all lanes of traffic are open this does not mean all work is done on the project. Miscellaneous work and cleanup will continue for the next few weeks.

The project cost $9.4 million and will significantly open things up for the 26,000 cars that travel on that stretch of Louise Avenue.
