Are you registered to vote? Katy Perry teamed with Funny Or Die to make sure that everyone knows that there is no dress code this election day. We just need to make sure we get our voices heard.

In South Dakota the deadline to be registered is October 24. You have to be registered to vote by this day.

This year's general election is on Tuesday November 8. In this election we will vote for our next President, our South Dakota House of Representative Member, one of our Senators, and our representatives to the state legislature. Several other new laws will also be on the ballot.

It’s a quick, easy and free process to register to vote in South Dakota. First you must:

  • Be a United States citizen
  • Reside in South Dakota (residency defined)
  • Be at least 18 years old on or before the next election
  • Not currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction which included imprisonment, served or suspended, in an adult penitentiary system (See additional felony information)
  • Not be judged mentally incompetent by a court of law

Places you can go to register:

  • County auditor’s office
  • City finance office
  • Driver’s license station
  • Public assistance agencies providing food stamps, TANF or WIC
  • Department of Human Services offices which provide assistance to the disabled
  • Military recruitment offices
