Joan Jett & The Blackhearts will issue their first new album in over seven years with the release of Varnished, according to Rolling Stone. The 10-track album, which is the followup to 2006's Sinner, will be released on October 1st and includes appearances by Dave Grohl and Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! The highly personal set will touch upon such weighty topics as "the death of (Jett's) parents. . . the victims of Hurricane Sandy and the modern tendency to overshare online." Look for Jett and the band on August 8th, when they perform the album's first single, "Any Weather," on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live.

I got a taste of the new album when she opened for Bad Company at a show we saw in Hnckley, MN in early July. She sounds great and the new album will bring the rock we've come to know and love from Jett over the years.
