Every year thousands of kids play flag football - grabbing the Velcro flag from an opponent's belt instead of knocking him or her down.

The recent spike in flag football participation is a direct result of concern over the risk of concussion when playing tackle ball. But is flag football actually safer than tackle football?

While it may seem safer, University of Iowa researchers have found that the incidence of injury among flag football players is actually twice as high.

Researchers also found that when playing flag football, head injuries often come in pairs - two players wearing no helmets colliding.

Here's a link to read more about the findings.
