A string of construction permit valuation records in Sioux Falls points to extremely active growth which the City hopes to continue in 2018.

Almost three-quarters of a billion dollars worth of projects went through the Planning and Building Services over the past year. Director Mike Cooper is fascinated by the overall depth and breadth of what is being built.

"For me it's interesting to break it out by the different types of construction activity. It just shows what level of investment people are making into the community. Whether it's brand new construction or adding and remodeling projects, it bodes very well for our entire region."

Having the second highest number ever of total housing permits was one factor. Cooper also mentions two huge manufacturing projects that led the way.

"Two of our largest permits for 2017 were the new Win Chill refrigerated warehouse that's going up in the northwest in Foundation Park. The second big manufacturing project was the new Gage Brothers plant that's currently under construction out on the northeast side off of I-229 and south of Benson Road."

Medical construction also continues to keep the rally going especially with the new Avera on Louise campus which will be a multi-year task and Sanford Health is also building a medical center in western Sioux Falls.

The City of Sioux Falls also did their part with the construction of the new Administration Building off Dakota Avenue in the Downtown area.
