Minnesota Beginnings

Robert Allen Zimmerman was born on May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota, and was raised in Hibbing. In high school, he joined his first band, the Golden Chords. Later, as a student at the University of Minnesota, he began to perform at the Ten O'Clock Scholar, a coffeehouse near campus, and became involved in the local folk music scene, introducing himself at gigs as 'Bob Dylan'.

New York Bound

At the age of 19, he moved to New York City and became a regular performer at clubs in Greenwich Village. That led to a recording contract with Columbia Records, and in March of 1962, Dylan released his self-titled debut album.

The Voice of a Generation

By the release of his third album, The Times They Are a-Changin', in February 1964, his lyrics had become much more political, making him an influential voice for the youth of the day.

From 1965 to 1970, Dylan released seven straight Top Ten albums and four Top Ten singles.

Over the years, Dylan has released 40 studio albums, selling more than 125 million records worldwide. He also has ten Grammy awards to his credit.
