When .38 Special played Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, Iowa in early 2013, a number of listeners reported that Donnie Van Zant wasn't with the band that night. Now we know why, and it wasn't just the show here unfortunately.

A post on the .38 Special Facebook page Friday read that Donnie has been unable to perform with the band for the past six months! He is suffering from a serious ear injury described as inner-ear nerve damage and is under strict orders from his doctors and will not be able to join .38 Special on the road 'for the foreseeable future'.

Van Zant will continue to write and record with the band however, the .38 Special, led by co-founder and lead singer Don Barnes, will continue their tour.

Get well soon Donnie.
