38 Special singer Don Barnes reported his “harrowing” experience of being aboard a Delta flight as an engine flamed out earlier this week.

Barnes and his wife Christine were among the 154 passengers aboard Flight 1425 from Atlanta to Baltimore when a malfunction forced an emergency landing in North Carolina.

You can watch a short video clip of the plane in trouble below, with an engine cone bouncing around over air blades as parts of the machine glow bright orange:

“Christine and I were on that plane yesterday, thinking we’re going to have a nice relaxing few days off the road, and it looked like an engine flamed out,” Barnes said in a statement. "It was definitely a harrowing event. Everyone on that plane was very concerned as we descended. It's not something I would ever want to experience again.”

He noted that the experience had given new meaning to the title of his recent solo album Ride the Storm, which was released in 2017.

“After we heard the boom, we just saw all this smoke come up into the cabin, and that's when we really started freaking out," another passenger told CNN. "It started slowing down a little bit, it started getting hot [and] air cut off.”

The report added that the emergency had taken place an hour into the flight, and some “freaked out” passengers had been praying and texting urgent messages to their families.

The plane landed safely and all passengers were booked on alternate flights to Baltimore. Delta said the engine had been replaced; the damage was being evaluated and no injuries had occurred.
