What’s the Favorite Pie in Sioux Falls?
Who wants some pie? Silly question!
What we really need to ask, is what kind do you want? The Harris Poll asked America that very question.
The results told that America's favorite pie is apple. A couple things on the list kind of bothered me, like pizza pie at number two! What's pizza got to do with this?
And worse yet, my favorite, banana cream didn't even make the top ten. Plus chicken pot pie did. I mean come on, what kind of people did they survey?
Just for the record, here's the national poll's top 12:
- Apple
- Pizza
- Chocolate/chocolate cream
- Pecan
- Cherry
- Pumpkin
- Key lime
- Coconut cream
- Chicken pot pie
- Lemon merengue
- Banana cream
- Blueberry
OK, let's now get down to our own business here. Let's ask the question, "What is the favorite pie of Sioux Falls, SD?"
For the answer, I'm not going to do a sample survey of a few deadbeats hanging around the corner. I'm going right to a man that would know if anybody would.
I visited with Steve Kuper, owner of Perkins Restaurant and Bakery at 2604 West 41st Street in Sioux Falls. That is where we go for pie. For my family, it's the only place to go for pie. The baker of over 25 years comes in at 1:00 AM to start making pies for the day.
"The pie we never fail to run out of first, is French Silk," Steve told us. "Our caramel apple pie would be second, then apple. We have peanut butter lovers in Sioux Falls, we know that because our peanut butter silk pie comes in at number four. And Mark, I know you like banana cream, but it gets bumped to sixth right behind coconut cream."
