There is little doubt that life as we once knew it has been turned upside down over the last six months during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. One way we're coping is turning back to some of the comfort foods that help transport us to a happier place in our hearts.

But when we're not stuffing our faces with pizza, burgers, and ice cream we're dealing with another new reality - an abundance of time on our hands.

With fewer places to go and with some of us still working from home most of the time, filling our schedules is becoming more and more problematic.

Apparently, all of that free time is helping to fuel our imaginations.

A recent story in The Wall Street Journal is proof of that. It says sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) are up 51 percent in the first nine months of this year compared to the same time period in 2019. The data for the report comes from the National UFO Reporting Center, in Harrington, Washington, which says more than 5000 incidents have been reported so far in 2020.

The center's director, Peter Davenport, tells the Journal that some of the sightings are probably drones, planes, or satellites, but he does say there are a number of incidents that have no clear origin. He points to a recent release of footage from the United States Navy which shows three UFOs spotted by Navy pilots.

Earlier this year, the Pentagon announced the formation of a task force to study 'unexplained aerial phenomena', or UAPs, another term for the unknown things in the skies above us.
