Tom Keifer Unveils ‘The Way Life Goes’ Video and Deluxe LP Art
Cinderella frontman Tom Keifer will release a deluxe edition of his 2013 solo LP The Way Life Goes on Friday featuring remastered sound and an array of bonus material that includes previously unreleased tracks, videos and expanded packaging designed by Fantoons artist David Calcano.
As Keifer told Ultimate Classic Rock when The Way Life Goes was originally released, the album found him at a personal and creative crossroads — not only had Cinderella been through a grueling legal battle when he started cutting tracks in 2003, but he'd had to battle his way back from a partial vocal paralysis that convinced some doctors he'd never be able to sing again. Starting with a stockpile of what he estimated as dozens of songs, Keifer set out to deliver a wide-ranging solo debut that covered the range of his ability.
"Before we started cutting the tracks, I think we looked at a big pile of songs that had been written over the years and tried to pick a group of them that felt like a record — something cohesive and something that had dynamics," he recalled. "You know, I always like to make records that have a range of sounds and emotions. So this one ranges from acoustic and organic to real hard-driving rock."
That range has now been remastered by Richard Dodd and expanded to include three bonus tracks: a version of Cinderella's "Nobody's Fool" featuring Lzzy Hale, a cover of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends" and another piano-based recording of "Nobody's Fool." Additionally, the new version of the album includes a DVD that features a making-of documentary, "The Way Life's Goin'," along with music videos for "Flower Song," "Solid Ground" and "It's Not Enough," a lyric video for "It's Not Enough," an album promo video and live performance footage.
Finally, there's Calcano's artwork, which consists of 20 panels of illustrations depicting the songs that make up The Way Life Goes' musical journey. It all adds up to what Keifer calls "a sum of all the amazingly talented people who came into our world as a result of the initial release."
