The Wildest Food Challenges in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota
Every summer, all of us food gluttons out there look forward to the Super Bowl of extreme eating, the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island in New York.
But if you're up for your own food challenge closer to home where you don't have to go bite-for-bite against Joey Chestnut, you're in luck.
The food lovers' website Mashed has put together a rundown of the 'Wildest Food Challenges in Every State' and the over-the-top challenges they chose for the Tri-State Area (Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota) aren't for the faint of heart.
In South Dakota, the top challenge involves the Mount Rushmore State's signature dish.
Head to Urban Chislic in Southern Sioux Falls for the 'Gorilla Dumpster Chislic Challenge'.
For $75 you'll be staring down a quartet of one-pound servings of lamb, beef, pork, and chicken chislic.
You can top that meat with up to eight sauces and dry rubs.
You'll also have to down double portions of cheese curds, kettle chips, and fries.
Finish in under an hour and the meal is free plus you'll get yourself a t-shirt, hat, and a spot on the Urban Chislic Wall of Fame.
In Iowa, head to Des Moines for the Adam Emmenecker challenge at Jethro's BBQ.
For $35.95, you'll be staring down a massive pork tenderloin and buffalo chicken tenders sandwich topped with fried cheese curds, Texas brisket, bacon, a full cheeseburger, a spicy pickle, and a pound of fries.
Oh and by the way, you've got just 15 minutes to clean your plate. Finish in the allotted time and your meal is free, plus you'll score a t-shirt and a spot on the Jetthro's BBQ Wall of Fame!
If a REALLY big breakfast is more your speed, head to Minnesota for the 'Barbarian Breakfast Challenge' at the Nicollet Diner in downtown Minneapolis.
For $40 you'll be treated to five pounds of food consisting of six eggs, six strips of bacon, four sausage patties, two slices of ham, hashbrowns, and toast all served on top of a platter-sized buttermilk pancake.
If you finish in under an hour, the meal is free and you'll score yourself a commemorative t-shirt.
