The terrible tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut in December 2012 has spurred a South Dakota House Committee to approve a bill that would allow school districts to arm teachers and other personnel to avoid something like that from happening in our state.

Supporters say it's needed because law enforcement officers wouldn't be able to respond in time to an emergency like what was witnessed last month while opponents say it will increase the chance of accidental shootings.

The full House of Representatives will further discuss the bill.
