The Lincoln County Sheriff's office says someone impersonating a sergeant in their office has been making the calls with notice of the 'missed' court date. The scammer then informs the recipient of the call that they must pay the department in gift cards to avoid going to jail over the 'offense'.

The sheriff's office says one victim sent the scammers $3,000 in gift cards.

They are now warning Lincoln County residents about the scam.
