If you have driven around South Dakota any length of time, then you have probably encountered a driver who cuts you off on the interstate just so they can get to the off-ramp first.

Or maybe it's the person who is tailgating you so close that they could be sitting in your back seat.

According to new research out by Insurify, reckless driving behavior is common in South Dakota.  South Dakota ranks third for reckless driving.

The numbers for South Dakota:

  • 49.3 reckless drivers per 10,000 drivers
  • 172% more reckless drivers than the national average
  • The concentration of police officers: 11% higher than the national average
  • The maximum punishment for a first offense: Up to one year in jail and/or up-to $2000 in fines.

South Dakota has the third toughest maximum sentence on the list.

North Dakota ranks number two and Nebraska is ten.

Virginia tops the list at number one.
