The number one question asked after a snow event for Sioux Falls residents has to be, "When is my street going to be plowed?" The City Street Department works full-force on such occasions and they do a pretty good job. But one thing is sure as death and taxes: as soon as I sit by the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate, the familiar beeps and yellow lights of the friendly snow plow comes down the street.

Sure, we took care of our driveways during the storm but then there's that dreaded wait for the snow plow to come through and push a ridge of hard snow chunks at the end of the driveway.

It's a part of winter.

Did you know there is a Sioux Falls snow plow tracker that is constantly being updated to let you know when to expect the plow in your neighborhood? I didn't either...and I'll be using this from here on out. Check out the Sioux Falls Snow Plow Tracker here.

When does the city of Sioux Falls use snow gates?

Another great question. According to the City of Sioux Falls website, snow gates can be used whenever there is a city-wide snow alert issued. There are a few exceptions to using snow gates during a snow event and you can find them here.

"The use of snow gates may be suspended during snow events in which the snow is greater or wetter than their use would be effective." ~ City of Sioux Falls

We're just guessing here but Old Man Winter may not be done with Sioux Falls for the season. We had a very dry fall and early part of winter which makes us think that Mother Nature has some catching up to do.
