In a recent meeting the Sioux Falls City Council reviewed the summer program for youth ridership on city buses.

Tracking young riders over the summer revealed a 24 percent increase in ridership, with June and July being the busiest months. Even though there was an increase in youth ridership, there was not an increase in behavior problems.

To increase more youth ridership, suggestions were made to work even closer with schools, connect services with Brandon and Harrisburg, and improve the routes as they are planned now.

Kids need to be in middle school or older to ride alone.

City council will look at an ordinance to create the free summer program every year. The first and second readings will be in December.
