A foot of snow in the Sioux Falls area is extending the holiday break for students and staff in the Sioux Falls School District.

According to the National Weather Service, as of 4:00 PM Tuesday (January 3), between 12 and 12.5 inches of snow had been recorded during this storm at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.

The 6.7 inches of snow that have fallen since midnight breaks a single-day record in the city for January 3. The old record of 6 inches dates back to 1897.
