What to Know about Sioux Falls’ Christmas Tree Drop-Off Sites

Once all of the Christmas presents have been unwrapped and all of the holiday decorations have been secured away for another year, it'll be time to get that Christmas tree out of your house.

Once again this season, the City of Sioux Falls is making it easy to dispose of those live pine trees.

Beginning December 26, there will be drop-off sites open to take those trees off of your hands.

The city is accepting live trees, wreaths, and garland at two locations.

One is just west of the Household Hazardous Waste Facility, at 1015 East Chambers Street, just off North Cliff Avenue.

The other is on North Lyon Boulevard, just north of West 12th Street.

Both locations will be operational Mondays through Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sundays from noon to 5:00 PM.

All lights, ornaments, decorations, and stands must be removed before dropping off the trees. The last day to drop off items is Sunday, January 7.

Artificial trees, bags, leaves, rubble, and household garbage will not be accepted.

If you're wondering what to do with those piles of wrapping paper and gift bags, the city's got you covered there as well.

Those items can all be recycled as long as they don't have glitter, foil, metallic, or plastic coatings. Remember to remove gift bag handles before recycling.

As for holiday lights you no longer need, you can drop those off at the city's Household Hazardous Waste Facility (1015 East Chambers Street), Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

All of the drop-off facilities are open to residents of Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, and Turner counties.
