‘The Vatican’ Pilot Directed By Ridley Scott
We've said it before, and we'll say it again. TV continues to become more and more of a medium that Hollywood's biggest directors can find an outlet. Showtime in particular is no doubt on the hunt for more high-profile programming with the (likely) imminent loss of 'Dexter' and 'Californication, as well as 'The Big C,' so what's next? Why not turn to master director Ridley Scott, helming his first-ever TV pilot 'The Vatican!' Find out the story inside!
As Showtime puts itself even more firmly on the map with recent 'Homeland' Emmy acclaim and monster ratings between it and 'Dexter,' the pay-cable network has attracted some serious directing talent. Deadline reports that director Ridley Scott has signed a deal to direct orignal pilot 'The Vatican,' which would likely move beyond the pilot stage given its impressive pedigree.
Written by Oscar-winner Paul Attanasio, 'The Vatican' is described as a “a provocative contemporary genre thriller about spirituality, power and politics – set against the modern-day political machinations within the Catholic church. The series will explore the relationships and rivalries as well as the mysteries and miracles behind one of the world’s most hidden institutions.” In terms of its power struggles, early comparisons fall between 'The Sopranos' and 'Upstairs Downstairs.'
